The whole holiday from booking to end was great the booking process was really easy and straightforward with all my questions answered immediately. It was my first time abroad alone and I was quite apprehensive however Katharine soon put my mind at rest. She is such a great host and teacher an the horses are incredible. Everything from the accommodation to the food to the area was just fabulous and I can't wait to return!! My only regret is that I did not book this sooner.

I could not fault the team at equestrian escapes they were efficient professional and offered me alternative options for dates to ensure I would be happy throughout my stay. I will definitely use them again and will not hesitate to recommend them.

Katharine was a wonderful hostess and cook. The cottage was beautiful and clean. The horses were a joy to ride and nothing was too much trouble. Looking forward to returning!

I had a brilliant week with Katherine at Monte de Rocha, despite me having a bad cough & the weather being not as good as in the UK! Katherine is a really accommodating host and easy-going company, so even if I had been there on my own I would have had a good time. The horses are so well looked after and happy, it was a joy to have them come up to be caught. Of the 6 horses I rode, I loved 3 of them (Piri, Hope & Rupee) but had a particular soft spot for fidgety young Rupee. The terrain there is perfect: no roadwork, undulating green hills, the reservoir for splashing in and acres of wild flower meadows amongst cork oaks. I got my gallops and had fun hopping over logs – yay! Katherine was good at varying the pace to avoid sore muscles and she also restored my confidence when it comes to jumping. I wish I could have regular lessons with her & Miguel (the farrier who is also an excellent trainer) – both inspiring teachers. The beautiful yard is kept immaculate by Samantha & Keith, who are so friendly and though I didn’t expect to spend the whole day there, very much enjoyed it. I fell for little Sophie and even more for Bartok at Martin’s house – what a sweetheart. The guest house is very comfortable, spacious and well equipped; not having to take toiletries was a bonus as it saved space in my carry-on case.

I have stayed with Katharine twice now in Portugal on Equestrian Escapes "Tailor made Algarve" holiday. The first time in 2013, was an exciting adventure for me - escaping the family for a few days alone to indulge my passion for horse-riding somewhere new! Not sure quite what to expect, I was immediately put at ease when Katharine picked me up from the airport I knew that I was in for a treat! A lovely home-cooked meal was waiting for me along with a chilled glass of wine; we discussed my riding aims and objectives in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The accommodation was very comfortable and after a good night's sleep, I got up in my own time to start the day. After a lesson on lovely "Lady", I got involved in turning out/grooming (my choice.. could have sat in the sun!!!) then went for a hack on handsome "Pedro" in the afternoon and finished my day schooling the lovely "Gucci"! The whole holiday was totally "tailor made" - Katharine is an excellent rider herself and gave me so much food for thought in terms of what I could achieve with my own horse - equally she has lots to offer less experienced riders. The holiday really is all about "you!" Needless to say I couldn't wait to book for a second time - it really felt like home from home. The wonderful horses, beautiful climate and scenery, superb hospitality; who could ask for more? Thank you Katharine! Can't wait for my next visit!

Equestrian Escapes have been helpful and efficient in all my dealings with them - they offer a fantastic range of holidays and I would not hesitate to recommend them to riders of all levels - there is something to suit most budgets!

My sister and I had a great time in Portugal. We shared our cottage with two like-minded ladies whom we had not met previously. We all got on really well and are hoping to repeat the experience soon! Katharine's hospitality was excellent, as were the stable yard facilities. I really enjoyed riding a few different horses (who were all real individuals!) in the beautiful open countryside of the Alentejo. The Equestrian Escapes website and Katharine's stable will definitely be my first stop next time I book a riding holiday!
