This 12 day holiday combines the Chilean capital, Santiago; the beautiful Lake District; and the wilderness of Patagonia, including the fantastic Torres del Paine.
ItineraryDay 1 (Wednesday) - Fly overnight from the UK to Santiago, the capital of Chile.

Day 2 (Thursday) - Santiago
Bed and Breakfast
Morning arrival in Santiago. You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel (2 nights). Free day to explore the city, perhaps visit the city centre.
Day 3 (Friday) - Santiago
Bed and Breakfast
Free day in Santiago or take the full day optional Vineyard & Valparaiso excursion. On this excursion you start by travelling from Santiago, to Chile’s most interesting city; Valparairso. This colourful city has a series of funiculars to take you up and down for spectacular views. After lunch, you visit a vineyard in the Casablanca Valley before returning to Santiago in the late afternoon.
Vineyard & Valparaiso
A full day excursion, descending from Santiago through the countryside to Chile’s most interesting city, Valparaiso, on the Pacifc coast. Here, colourful houses tumble down the hills to the sea, and a series of funiculars take you up and down for spectacular views. The city was an important port in the 19th century, and was also once home to the poet Pablo Neruda, Chile’s most famous son. After lunch, you visit a vineyard in the Casablanca Valley, where you can try some of the excellent wine. The Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are especially good here. You return to Santiago in the evening.
Day 4 (Saturday) - Puerto Varas

Fly to the heart of the Chilean Lake District, taking a beautiful tour through an Alerce forest, where the trees grow to almost 50 metres tall and live for 4,000 years. Then continue to Puerto Varas (2 nights) on the shores of Lago Llanquihue, with views of the beautiful snow-capped Osorno volcano. The town has a German feel due to European immigration.
Day 5 (Sunday) - Puerto Varas

A free day in Puerto Varas to explore the surrounding area by yourself, alternatively take the optional full day Lake District excursion. This excursion takes you around the shores of Lake Llanquihue, visiting Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, where you can visit the Verde Lagoon. After lunch in the town of Ocay, continue to Frutillar, which has strong German influences, before returning to the Puerto Varas.
This full day excursion around Lake Llanquihue gives wonderful views of the lakes and volcanoes of the Lake District. The road around the lake is over 100 miles long, half of which is paved. The rest is on a good unpaved surface. You leave Puerto Varas, heading east to the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, where you walk to the emerald-green Verde Lagoon and enjoy views of the Osorno Volcano. You then continue around the lake to Puerto Ocay, a pretty town on the north coast of the lake, where you have lunch. The road continues south to Frutillar, a small town with strong German infuence in its food and architecture. You visit some restored colonial houses, before returning to Puerto Varas in the afternoon.
Day 6 (Monday) - Puerto Natales
Bed and Breakfast; lunch is included on journey from Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine
Fly over the Southern Patagonian Ice Field to Punta Arenas, located on the Straits of Magellan. The flight takes you over the Southern Ice Field, and it is possible to see the glaciers snaking their way into the see. Then take a 3 hour transfer to Puerto Natales, a small town wonderfully set on the shores of Last Hope Sound, with especially beautiful sunrises (1 night).
Day 7 (Tuesday) - Torres del Paine

An early start from Puerto Natales for your journey to Torres del Paine. You cross the grasslands, getting your first view of the granite towers as you enter the national park for a full day tour. You explore one of the world’s great national parks, visiting the lagoons, waterfalls, glaciers and mountains by road. The park is dominated by the granite Paine massif, with wonderful views of the towers and horns throughout the park. The Southern Ice Field flows into the park, with many glaciers throughout the area. Apart from the spectacular scenery, the area is home to much wildlife, including guanacos (wild llamas), rheas and condors. If you are very lucky, you may also spot one of the pumas which lives in the park. A packed lunch is provided. When you visit Lago Grey, you can add on the Boat to Grey Glacier excursion, where you sail to the Grey Glacier and maybe watch chunks of the glacier crash into the lake. The navigation takes approximately 2 hours. You arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon, where you can enjoy the wonderful views of the Paine massif (2 nights).
Boat to Grey Glacier
As part of the Torres del Paine excursion, you can add a cruise on Lago Grey, where you sail to the glacier. You sail among floating icebergs before arriving at the face of the 40-metre high glacier, where you can listen to the ice breathe and maybe watch chunks of the glacier crash into the lake. You then have a drink with ice from the glacier before sailing back. The navigation takes approximately 2 hours.
Day 8 (Wednesday) - Torres del Paine
Bed and Breakfast;
A free day to explore the Torres del Paine National Park, or take the the optional French Valley Trek excursion. This full day guided excursion lasts approximately 10 hours, and is of moderate difficulty, with a packed lunch included. On the hike you get impressive views of Grey Glacier and of the surrounding granite towers and lakes. Alternatively, take the optional Las Torres Trek. The excursion lasts approximately 10 hours and is of moderate to high difficulty, with a packed lunch included. You trek through beech forest before arriving at the glacial moraine, where you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the granite towers. You can also book activities directly in the hotel, including horse riding and mountain biking, as well as other tours of the park by minivan.
French Valley Trek
This full day guided trek begins with a short drive to Pudeto, where you take a 30 minute catamaran ride across Lake Pehoe to the start of the trail. You follow the shores of Lago Grey and get a close view of the impressive Grey Glacier which flows into the lake. Continue to walk to Lake Skottberg before ascending the Valle del Frances where you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Paine massif. Once you get to the feet of Monte Paine Grande you will be able to rest in front of the French Glacier. You then descend to the valley and re-cross Lake Pehoe before returning to the hotel by road. The excursion takes approximately 10 hours and is of moderate difficulty, and is only available between November and March. A packed lunch is provided.
Las Torres Trek
You trek from the hotel, following the River Ascencio up the valley, with dramatic views. The trail continues through beech forest and finally reaches a glacial moraine, presenting the most difficult part of the trail. The granite towers do not reveal themselves until the top of the climb, but the wait is worth it, as the views are truly fantastic. You then descend to the valley. The excursion takes approximately 7 hours and is of moderate-high difficulty. A packed lunch is provided.
Day 9 (Thursday) - Torres del Paine to Puerto Natales
A free day in the park. In the evening, return to Puerto Natales by road (1 night). Alternatively, take the full day Serrano River Zodiac excursion back to Puerto Natales. You take a zodiac ride out of the park, enjoying the views of the Paine massif. You visit the Serrano Glacier, then board a ship and sail through the waters of the Last Hope Sound, arriving in Puerto Natales in the late afternoon.

This full day excursion takes you back to Puerto Natales by river and fjord, passsing beautiful glaciers and forests. You take a zodiac ride down the River Serrano with wonderful views of the Paine massif. Then continue until you reach the magnificent Rio Serrano glacier, surrounded by forest. After lunch at the Estancia Perales, you board a ship and sail through the waters of the Last Hope Sound. Here you will have the chance to spot large colonies of cormorants and sea lions, with also the chance to see condors if you are lucky. You arrive into Puerto Natales in the late afternoon.
Day 10 (Friday) - Santiago
Bed and Breakfast;
A 3 hour transfer to Punta Arenas then fly to Santiago (1 night)
Day 11 (Saturday) - Fly overnight to the UK.

Day 12 (Sunday) - Arrival in the UK.
